In 1988, the community came together to organize and found the Pipa Ecological Nucleus that acts with the dissemination of environmental information and the municipality was chosen to be one of Pilots of the Orla Project - Integrated Management Project of the Maritime Orla.

Pipa's Ecological Sanctuary

The Pipa's Ecological Sanctuary is not only a place of environmental preservation, it is also a historical, scientific site that offers the visitor the possibility to connect even more with nature.

It has 16 trails available, with degrees of difficulty ranging from easy to difficult (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), and each with a different appeal, so it is important to learn about the condition of the chosen path before to venture.

Animals in Pipa

Wildlife is quite rich in the Atlantic forest of the region and there you can find some animals such as:

. Timbu
Timbu, as it is popularly known by the region or "White-Ear Gambá" is a type of marsupial with large ears, covered by a thin layer of hair, elongated snout and large head of nocturnal habits (night owls).
With an approximate size between 60 and 90 centimeters, these animals weigh around 1.6 kg and pose no risk to humans. They are famous for their ugly scent, but they only fire him when they feel threatened. Read more about him clicking here.

. Sagui (monkey)

. Sea turtle

. Iguanas
The Iguanas, although they may seem a bit creepy for some visitors because of their appearance, are very docile animals, so much so that they have become the first reptile to be tamed. However, although they are quiet and passive animals, sometimes they can go on a tail that tend to bruise or even bite when they feel threatened, so the ideal is not to get too close. . Birds
The northeast is a region rich in bird species and in Pipa could not be different. There is a huge variety of these animals over there, some of them are:

- Black Heron: This bird has a plumage of two different colors, the clear phase and the dark phase. Its scientific name Egretta Gularisé originating from French and Latin, done aigrett means heron in French and gularis from Latin that means gluttony, throat.

- Black-billed toucan: With approximately 46 centimeters, he lives in the bósques and carries the scientific name of Ramphastos vitellinus. The coloring of the feathers as well as its long beak attracts the attention of all the people through which it passes.

- Bienteveo: This is one of the most popular birds in Brazil and its name comes from its song, as it seems to say "bienteveo".

- Cracidae: This bird, has a very beautiful scientific name - Penelope Supercilaris, she is popularly known as Mutum, Jacu and Aracuã. With approximately 55 cm, it has a red neck that resembles that of its distant relatives, partridges and European and Asian pheasants.
