Garbage on the beaches and consequences for the environment
There are serious consequences of throwing garbage on the beach, and what not everyone knows is that leaving some residue in the sand, when the tide rises and when it rains, he goes to the sea causing a great havoc.
According to a Research carried out by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in partnership with McKinsey, in 2050 there will be more plastic waste than fish in the oceans, and it is estimated that more than 150 million tons of plastics pollute the ocean.
You can read the full note that appeared in the newspaper "Folha de São Paulo" in 2016 here.
Among the most obvious environmental impacts of garbage thrown to the beach and in the sea are those related to the death of animals either by ingestion or entanglement. The most affected are fish, birds, marine mammals, turtles and invertebrates.
However, there are also other damages, such as the degradation of beauty and attributes of the environment, damage to fishing activities and navigation, increase of municipal expenses due to periodic cleaning, water pollution, reduction of fish stocks, pollution of fauna and flora, among others.
Tourists also suffer with all this impact, since most of the time Pipa is chosen by them because of its beautiful landscapes and beaches, where there is a large part of the Environmental Protection Area (APA in spanish).
But with the arrival of many people from various parts of the world, not all are aware of all these problems caused by waste left in the sand or in the sea, that a simple bag, or a small cigarette butt can cause a large havoc.
It was by believing that only with awareness, planning and participation will it be possible to minimize the effects already caused and prevent new ones, that the VivePipa team decided to roll up their sleeves and work.
Every week a representative of VivePipa goes to the beaches to clean them, picking up the trash and separating the recyclable from the biodegradable worrying about the sustainability of the villa and the environment, in addition to their awareness projects.
The mission is to care for and preserve Pipa in all its nature.
