Aprecíe Restaurant

Enjoy world cuisine in one place.

Aprecíe only opens at night, and that decides everything else. It is a thatched-roof house on Rua dos Bem-Te-Vis, with the kitchen visible from the pavement, tables inside and out, and a menu that crosses sea and land with restaurant technique: salmon with Moroccan couscous, tuna in a sesame crust, rack of lamb, crème brûlée with passion-fruit granita. Seven days a week, from 6pm to 11pm.

How eating here works

This is a sit-down restaurant with table service and a printed menu, split into starters, mains from the sea, mains from the land, vegetarian, desserts and children's dishes. You walk in, you are seated, you order from the card: there is no buffet and no set menu.

The starters set the tone: a bruschetta on house-made focaccia with smoked salmon and sour cream; an octopus salad with potatoes and vinaigrette; a burrata stuffed with sun-dried tomato, parmesan and pesto; and prawns in gribiche sauce with crisp filo and dried olives. They are built to be shared before the main.

From the sea

The sea section is the longest on the menu and the one that best explains what the kitchen is after. There is grilled salmon with Moroccan couscous and sour cream; tuna in a sesame crust with sushi rice, sautéed vegetables, wasabi mayonnaise and teriyaki; white fish with creamy green rice and bacon farofa; seabass with sweet potato and aïoli; and fish with lemon, buttered cassava and pink pepper.

The prawns take two different routes: one teriyaki, with rice noodles and sunomono, and one served over roast pumpkin with vinaigrette and white sauce. And there are three deeper dishes that repeat across the house's own photographs: a black pasta with seafood in white wine, a seafood risotto with sun-dried tomato pesto, and a Thai green curry with coconut rice.

From the land

On land the menu is short and deliberate: pepper steak, fillet in a black pepper crust with house potatoes, warm tomatoes and cognac sauce; pork ribs slow-roasted with rustic potatoes and coleslaw; rack of lamb with sweet potato and cardamom purée and red wine sauce; and a pasta with strips of fillet in gorgonzola sauce with honey. Four dishes, one for each thing someone might be after.

Vegetarian and desserts

The vegetarian part is written as a section of its own: a mushroom ragù served with a quinoa and vegetable salad. Beside it, in the same block, sits a Hawaiian plate of marinated salmon and tuna over oriental rice with tomato, radish, onion, cucumber, mango and spring onion.

For dessert there is crème brûlée, flambéed vanilla with passion-fruit granita, and a brownie with chocolate ice cream and caramel. The house states dessert as part of the service, and both options stay on the card all year.

To drink

There is a bar on site and the drinks list is complete: caipirinha, caipiroska, caipifruta, mojito, margarita, cuba libre, gin and tonic, Aperol spritz and negroni. There is wine by the glass, beer, spirits, coffee and fruit juices. With the kitchen running until eleven, the table stretches over a drink without anyone rushing.

The room

The house describes itself with four words: casual, romantic, quiet and good for special occasions. The front is low, with a continuous thatched roof and the name painted on a wooden sign hung from a chain. Inside there are plants, hanging lamps and dark wooden tables; outside, on the stone street, there are tables with red runners and yellow planters.

The kitchen works in full view from the pavement, which is part of why the house reads as open rather than closed: from the street you can see the pass, the lamps hanging over the tables and people seated under the thatched eaves. On a stone street where the whole frontage is shops and bars, that is the detail that marks it out from a distance.

There is also something not stated that is worth saying: the listing records that there is no wheelchair-accessible parking. Anyone who needs that access should ask in advance.

Two more things the house states that answer concrete questions: it welcomes the LGBTQ+ community and presents itself as a safe space for transgender people; and it allows dogs, which can stay in the outdoor area.

With children

There is a children's menu of its own, written on the card as a separate block: fish fillet or strips of beef fillet with house potatoes, and pasta with butter or cream. It is not a smaller portion of the adult plate, it is a menu that was thought through.

With the kitchen opening at 6pm, a family can also eat early and be out by eight, which is when a table with children genuinely ends.

When to go

It opens all seven days, 6pm to 11pm. There is no closing day, and that is its biggest practical advantage: in a village where a good share of the kitchens rests one or two days, here any night of the week is a service night.

The hour you arrive changes the table. At half past six the room is empty and the street still has light: that is the slot for dinner with children or for a quiet table. After nine the house turns into a long evening, with the cocktails and the desserts, and the kitchen keeps working until eleven.

Where it is and how to get there

It is at Rua dos Bem-Te-Vis 43, a few steps from the centre of Praia da Pipa, in the stone-street part of the village. You can walk there from almost any place to stay, and you recognise the front by the thatched roof and the hanging wooden sign.

If you are coming up from Praia da Pipa, it sits on the way into the centre. If you are arriving from Natal, from the airport or from another beach along the coast, look at the transfer options for the long stretch and then get around on foot.

Delivery

The house states delivery and contactless delivery. It is the answer for the night when nobody wants to leave the apartment and still wants to eat well.

Who it is for

For dinner for two: the house calls itself romantic and good for special occasions, and the menu is built for a starter, a main and a dessert.

For the family that wants to eat well without leaving the children with a token plate: there is a proper children's menu and the kitchen opens early.

And for anyone travelling with a dog who does not want to leave it behind: it is stated that the dog can come in and stay in the outdoor area.
