Terramar

In Terramar you will find the best of Brazilian cuisine, fish, lobster, seafood, pastas, pizzas, appetizers and much more!

There is a raised wooden terrace on Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos, with a railing, greenery in front of it and, past the treetops, a band of sea. The tables come laid with placemats, red cloth napkins and an oil cruet, and the kitchen is a seafood kitchen. Service runs from eleven in the morning to midnight, every day of the year, so dinner with a sea view does not depend on which day you happen to be in Pipa.

How eating here works

This is a sit-down restaurant with table service and the table laid in advance: placemat, plate, cutlery and a folded cloth napkin, a napkin basket, oil and vinegar within reach. You come in, you are seated, and you eat for as long as you need to.

The kitchen works with seafood, and the format the restaurant's own photos show is the northeastern coastal one: the main dish arrives in a clay pot, in its broth, set on a wooden board, with strips of pepper and chopped greens over the top; beside it, in clay bowls, rice and a thick orange purée. It is a dish that goes to the middle of the table and gets shared, rather than a closed individual portion.

That shapes how to order: a table of two or three takes the pot in the centre and splits the sides. It is spoon food and long-conversation food, not a quick plate, and it matches the long hours the place keeps. There is lunch, dinner and dessert, with counter service as well as waited tables: if you arrive alone or just to wait, the counter will do.

Salad bar, organic and vegetarian

The restaurant lists a salad bar, and in a seafood kitchen that changes a fair amount: next to the clay pot there is something green to help yourself to, which is exactly what you want after three days of beach food. It also lists organic dishes and vegetarian options, so a mixed table has nothing to negotiate. And there are small plates and fast food on the same menu: you can come in and eat something light without ordering a main.

Takeaway and delivery

Beyond the terrace, the kitchen also does takeaway, delivery and no-contact delivery. That is the answer for the night nobody wants to leave the flat and everybody still wants seafood.

To drink

There is a bar on site and the full list is on record: wine, beer, cocktails, spirits and coffee. There is also a happy hour, which on a terrace facing the sea has an obvious slot: late afternoon, when the light drops onto the water and the table has not yet turned into dinner.

On the table in their photos there is wine: a bottle of red and a bottle of white open at the same time, with a stemmed glass for each. Wine here is ordered by the bottle and poured at the table. With a seafood pot in the middle and two glasses poured, lunch turns into afternoon and dinner into a long evening.

The setting

The restaurant describes itself in four words, and all four point the same way: cosy, casual, romantic and quiet. That is the combination that settles a dinner for two: you walk in without dressing up, you do not have to raise your voice to talk, and the table can stretch. There is free Wi-Fi and a toilet, two things that matter more than they sound on a long evening.

The terrace is wooden and sits up high. A railing runs along the edge and a post holds up the roof, and in front of the railing the vegetation grows up: the tables look out towards the treetops and, behind them, the sea. The light coming in is green and filtered, and the sea reads as a pale band at the back.

Tables and folding chairs are dark wood, and the red of the cloth napkins is the one strong colour in the room. They are laid in two rows parallel to the railing, so nearly all of them face outwards. That arrangement is deliberate: the terrace is built for looking.

And what you look at, in their own photographs, is this: the surf in front and a dozen boats anchored on the water, still, seen from above. It is the picture of Praia da Pipa's sea traffic, boats coming and going, and from the terrace you can follow it without getting up.

When to go

It opens seven days a week, 11:00 to 00:00. Thirteen hours straight, with no break between lunch and dinner, and not a single rest day in the week. That is its biggest practical advantage: in a village where plenty of kitchens close one or two days, here any day of the week is a service day.

For the view, timing matters. If you want to see the sea and the boats, arrive in daylight: from eleven to five everything is visible, and the terrace is made for a long lunch. If dinner is what you are after, the kitchen runs to midnight and the table becomes an open-air evening, with the sound of the sea below and the lights of the avenue behind.

In between sits the happy hour the restaurant lists, which on this terrace falls neatly between the two services. And at the other end of the day there is late-night food: you can walk in at noon coming up from the beach, or at eleven at night when half the village has already shut, and there is a kitchen working either way. For the last night of a trip, when schedules fall apart, that settles dinner.

Where it is and how to get there

It sits on Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos at 585, the main street of Praia da Pipa. You can walk there from the centre of the village along the avenue itself, no detour needed, and the terrace stands above street level, which is what gives it the height and the view.

From Praia da Pipa you come up along the same avenue, so it slots into the walk back from the beach before you reach your accommodation. If you are arriving from Natal, from the airport or from another beach along the coast, look at the transfer options to cover the stretch into the village and get around on foot after that.

With children

This is the part the photographs do not show and that decides a family trip. The restaurant states that it is kid-friendly, that it has high chairs and — the one that hardly ever appears — a children's menu. All three, at the same address.

In practice it means nothing has to be improvised: the child has somewhere to sit, there is a dish written for them, and if seafood is not happening, the salad bar and the small plates cover the rest. With thirteen unbroken hours you can also have an early lunch or dinner at six, which is when a family actually eats.

Who it's for

For the couple or the table that wants dinner with the sea in view: the place describes itself as romantic and quiet, it takes bookings, and the terrace faces outwards.

For a family: high chairs, a children's menu, a salad bar and an open-air terrace where a noisy table bothers nobody.

And for anyone arriving late — a delayed flight, an afternoon that stretched on the beach — who needs a kitchen open until midnight, on any day of the week.
