Tamar Project

The Tamar Project is the best known project in Brazil that aims to preserve and protect the life of sea turtles. This project is a private non-profit entity and co-executor of the ICMBio/MMA - PAN National Plan of Action for the Conservation of Sea Turtles in Brazil.

It is located in 23 regions that are distributed throughout Brazil, including Pipa beach, being the headquarters of the project in Mata de São João - Bahia and was founded in 1980.

This project works by conducting research and seeking to preserve the 5 species of sea turtles that exist in our country, since there are only 7 species in the world, that is, Brazil is home to the largest number of species of sea turtles in the world, missing only 2 .
